In October 2006 after years of attempted censorship both Father, Son and Holy War and War and Peace were finally shown on National TV at prime time. Below are some of the many responses that flowed in

Letters from schoolkids

Amongst the most rewarding experiences are the times when the films have been screened for high school kids. It's amazing to find that children between the ages of 10 and 15 seem to have no trouble grasping fairly complex ideas. Class, caste and gender loyalties are not yet fully entrenched and no defence mechanism blocks out the pain of others.

Of course the real credit goes to the teachers who have kept their sensibilities alive in the face of national and international cynicism.

One such teacher is Rupali Sachdev of the Mahadevi Birla Girl's Higher Secondary School in Calcutta. Here are a few of the scores of letters received from her students every year.
